Funny gardening stories
October 26, 2021 0 By adminYou may not think it, but gardening can be an exciting adventure. No, it’s true. Really, it is. I can tell you the funniest stories about things that happened to me in my garden. From big to small creatures, something fun happens every year!
I love the taste of fresh food picked straight from the garden. And so do the creatures in my garden. Sometimes I think all my effort is just for them. I remember once when my little apple tree eventually grew an apple. Tomorrow, I thought to myself. “Tomorrow I will pick the first and only apple that has grown on my apple tree and then I will eat it.” I just never managed to pick my apple. A squirrel arrived first. Which I might not have minded very much, except that he only took two or three bites, decided he didn’t like the apple and threw it away. I was almost tempted to eat the apple anyway, but wasn’t quite sure it would be a good idea.
Another time, when I was little, my dad had this cute crab apple tree. One fall, the tree was full of wild apples and my dad promised we would harvest the wild apples when they were ready in a couple of days. The next day I went to the garden to look at this wonderful crab apple tree. To my dismay, one of the branches had been broken and all the crab apples on the branch were gone! During the night a bear came and ate all the wild apples. No apple jelly for me. But at least the bear wasn’t hungry!
Years ago, there was this beaver coming up from the stream and coming to our yard, just to eat the dandelions that grew in the grass. He didn’t want to move, no matter what we were doing or how close we were to him. I have several photos of the beaver eating dandelions. He didn’t even seem to notice that I was standing next to him to get a close up photo. Another time I was mowing the grass with a lawn mower and he didn’t move at all, even when I approached him. Eventually I had to leave that patch of lawn and mow it the next day. I sure miss that beaver!
